We received a lot of feedback from our last post. Most of it was well intentioned and appreciated, but some was blatantly insulting, profane, superior, and judgmental. Apparently our decisions, way of life, and story are quite an affront!
We have decided not to print those comments because they are far from respectful and considerate. It’s not that we wouldn’t post a negative comment, but we will not post comments that attack, insult, and slander us. Our blog is our story as we see fit to write it and not a public forum.
These people espouse the point of view that unless we have careers or doctorates we are not “grown up,” and that we do not “have a life.” They have said that we are hypocrites, that we have never worked a day in our life, that we just use people, and that we are deluded, slanderous, and frauds. While we could defend ourselves against these attacks point by point, we aren’t going to allow our blog to be hijacked in that way.
If you don’t like our story, then too bad! It’s our life, and we have to live with our decisions, just like everyone else in the world. You don’t have to like us or approve of us, and we don’t really care if you do or not. This is our blog, our story, and our opinions and thoughts. If you don’t like them then don’t read them.
So thanks to everyone who posted a decent comment and actually had manners! We reflected on everything and had much to think about. Now, we are actively in process moving the yurt and selling and storing our things. We have just one month to get everything off the land, and we are looking forward to completing this massive undertaking and turning the page into the next chapter of our story.

Way to go! dont let anyone ruin your dream because they chose a different path. Heck I chose a differnt path than you, went to university and got a mechanical engineering degree and now I work a regular week same as alot of people. But not everyone is built to do that. I think what you guys are doing is great. North America was built by people who decided to go on a sailboat wondering and looking for a different life. Anyway I will keep following along and I hope you can get back to your boat soon after your shore obligations are fulfilled.

Just wanted to let you know I am another who was enjoying your travel log. Your journey carried you thru my old sailing grounds and brought back great memories. Not one to espouse philosophy, I just wanted to share an observation. You seemed to be the happiest when you were sailing…aka (Wee Happy). You need not look far to find others who, like you, have discovered you cannot put a price on living, and they find a way to make it happen. You need only watch Teresa’s short video to understand how sailing captures you (sailingsimplicity.com) and how to do it simply. One stop to JB’s website and a person finds a textbook for success, and a great quote which says it all! (atomvoyages.com/atom/aboutatom.htm). The key is to decide what is right for you, find a way to make it happen (legally of course), and then take the first step (always the hardest part), then….enjoy!

Well said! I read it repeatedly these days that if we are not in debt up to our eyeballs and running at 100 mph then we are not “normal” and/or a contributing member of society. Too bad so many are so deluded.

You seem to have survived your life so far, so I guess you aren’t making huge mistakes. When the mistakes come, learn from it and move on, which you seem to be doing. Plan well and take care of each other.
You can’t do better than that. Captain K (I love that new title) your a very talented and intelligent person and L seems to be a perfect match for you.
Life is a risk, and it is better to look back and say I tried than to spend your life wondering what would have happened if I did it differently like most of us.
I think you have the right idea about moving the yurt. I agree with Steve, you were both happiest sailing. So get a little place on where you can settle in a little work on the side to make ends meet and sail. Who says you have to work full time! You go kids
Suffering from Salt Withdrawal are Wee now? As of this moment we are heading back south Nov 1, yes WE, Ayrton is coming. I’m sure the clones on land will have a wonderful time criticizing my fathering skills now.

Thanks Wes! Yes, we are definitely suffering from Salt Withdrawal! And the summers ARE lovely here, just today we were marvelling at the green lush beauty of the rolling hills here as we were driving to the dump to take a huge load of trash…..how romantic! Our day of romance is coming, though as we are planning on going to Lake Champlain this weekend. And then, soon we will be back to the Florida heat!
I have so enjoyed following your adventures. Please don’t let small minds dampen your enthusiasm. Jealousy rears its ugly head in many ways but you can choose to condemn those people or consider the source and know that those people cannot erase one bit of your experience. Keep on your chosen path! (PS- I’m jealous too, but in a good way.)
Dang, I am old and don’t have degree, much less a doctorate.
I guess that means I have wasted my whole life so far and been irresponsible.
Oh well.
I have seen that my business totally devastated in the last few years by the economic downturn and by competitors using the abundant cheap labor of illegal immigrants to severely underbid me on projects. I never would have guessed that this would have happened 10 years ago.
Luckily for me, I did ok in the boom years of construction and am now planning on “being irresponsible” in the near future and doing some sailing/traveling, before I get too old.
Point is, one can plan all they want, but the world is a rapidly changing place. You can work hard, follow the status quo approved path and still end up with nothing to show for it than the question of where you life went and a memory of the essentially the same day repeated over and over. You might as well enjoy some of lifes adventures while you are still young and mostly free.
I like how the Pardeys have lived their life so far. A simple, adequate, self-reliant existence, filled with memories and friends, but not much else. That seems to be enough for me.
I really enjoy all of these comments. It is good to know that there are other fellow travelers out there that think and feel the same way that I do. Good for you guys, good for all of us.
